Hello Earl Grey Families,

Icy Conditions and Snow Removal at Earl Grey

Facility operators, caretakers and grounds crews work hard to remove snow and ice throughout the winter months at CBE schools. First priority is given to snow clearing and sanding of perimeter sidewalks adjacent to school property, as well handicap bus drop-off areas and other related handicap zones. This could take up to 48 hours for this cleaning to be complete following a snow event. Second priority is given to snow clearing of asphalt playground compounds at elementary schools.

We know there are some concerns at schools about snow and ice on sidewalks and parking lots. We are doing our best to keep up with requests; however, with the ongoing thaw and refreeze cycle it has been difficult to find opportunities to effectively clear these areas.

The facility operator at Earl Grey School is working to keep pathways clear and gravel is place on icy patches. However, there are still some sections of icy buildup on our pathways. Our facility operator is working with CBE ground crews to determine what else can be done to support the removal of  ice buildup.

We would clarify that the school does not have a staff member on leave for a fall at work. and there have been no reports of falls on the pathway.

The school is monitoring the safety of their playground and fields during the winter months until all snow and ice has melted for the season.

School staff will review seasonal/winter mobility safety with our students. We ask that parents also support us at home with safety conversations about walking and running on icy paths and sidewalks.

Staffing Change for Grade 3 Students in Room Nine

We are very sad to see Ms. Candace Marks leave us. Her last day will be on Thursday, January 30.  Ms. Marks has been a wonderful addition to our school community and will be missed by students, parents and staff.   Ms. Marks will be taking on her new challenge, teaching grade 5 and 6 at a CBE school in the North West beginning February 1st.  As sad as we are to see Ms. Marks leave we are excited to have Ms. Amanda Shoults back after her maternity leave.  Ms. Shoults has been teaching at Earl Grey for a number of years and is excited to take on the teaching responsibilities for grade 3 in room nine.  We wish Ms. Marks the very best in her teaching career and welcome back Ms. Shoults!

Presentations

Thank you to Mrs. Helsen for organizing the Rocks and Rings Program and Kananaskis in the Classroom Presentation. The students thoroughly enjoyed the curling residency and were so engaged in learning about this unique sport. They were equally captivated by the presentation on Robin Wood: The Prince of Trees, which sparked their curiosity and imagination.

Science Fair

We will have a student meeting on Tuesday, January 21 at lunch where students will receive information about the planning package and expectations. All registration forms need to be returned by Monday, January 27.
