Hello Earl Grey Families,

My commute to school takes me past the Field of Crosses set up along Memorial Drive with over 3000 markers symbolizing each resident of Calgary who died protecting our country as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. It is a stunning visual reminder of our Armed Forces sacrifices protecting our freedom.  November 8 is also Indigenous Veterans Day – a day to reflect and remember the contributions and sacrifices made by First Nations, Metis and Inuit people in Service to Canada. We all have memories of Remembrance Day and what it means to us, whether it is a grandparent who served in the war or, a friend or family member who is currently serving in the Armed Forces.  We had our Remembrance Day Service yesterday.  Thank you to our division two choir, students and staff who shared family memories and to Ms. Cotton for organizing and conducting our assembly.

Playground Update

Thank you to all the students, teachers, staff, families and friends who came together in such an inspiring, collaborative, creative and entrepreneurial way and raised over $17,000!

Congratulations to Our Winners!

The classes that raised the most and enjoyed a Pizza Party this week are:

  • Ms. Marks’s Grade 3 Class
  • Mrs. Fontanne’s Grade 4 Class

Individually, the top fundraisers were:

  • Xavier in Grade 3 (Principal for the Day)
  • Isaac in Kindergarten (Assistant Principal for the Day)

Shout out to our Top 15 Earners

Xavier, Isaac, Anson, Holly, Victoria, Kai, Elle, Sophie, Shona, Harvey, Elizabeth, Mila, Theo K, Sybal, and Jack.

We would also like to recognize the students who worked together as a group or a class.  We appreciate the team effort too!

Well done, everyone!

With the success of the Playground Palooza we have secured $195,000 through our fundraising efforts and have applied for an additional $185,000 in grants, putting us just $100,000 away from our goal of $480,000.

A playground update went home with students on Wednesday with more detail about the playground progress, key features and next steps. Images of the latest design are available on the website under the Progress Updates tab. The playground committee will be presenting and answering questions at the next Parent Council meeting on November 19 if you would like more information. You are also welcome to check out the website or email the committee at earlgreyplayground@gmail.com

Thank you again for your support and engagement.

Calling ALL chocolate-lovers! Purdys Chocolate Orders

We’re teaming up with Purdys Chocolatier to fundraise for The Earl Grey Parents Association in hopes of raising $2000!

Stock up on your favourite Purdys Winter fundraising treats (did someone say Hedgehogs?) AND support a great cause at the same time—it’s the best of both worlds. All fundraising profits raised will directly support initiatives at the school, so every order makes a great difference to us.

Ordering is as easy as eating chocolate. Visit the Purdys website, and fill out your info. You’ll need an email address, click “Join Campaign”, enter campaign number - 40261, and order to your heart’s content!

The order deadline is November 24, so get shopping!

Book Fair

Scholastic Book Fair is coming up soon,  November 25-29. Students can make purchases during their regularly scheduled library times. Parents/caregivers are welcome to come in and make purchases after school until 3:30.  We will also be selling items during parent/teacher interviews from 4:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday night and Friday morning from 8:00 – 12:00.  Remember, books make great Christmas presents and all sales allow us to buy more new books for our school library. If you are interested in volunteering to help with the book fair, please see the sign up.
