Dear Earl Grey Families,
After much deliberation, I have decided to retire from Earl Grey School and the Calgary Board of Education effective June 27, 2025.
I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have served as your principal and have thoroughly enjoyed my work with students, staff and families for the past 9 years.
I have been a teacher, vice-principal, assistant principal and principal with the CBE for over 30 years. However, it is my time at Earl Grey that has brought me my fondest memories. Earl Grey is truly a remarkable little school on the hill. It has, and will continue to be a school that emphasizes learning excellence for all our students, taught by a gifted group of teachers with the assistance of a strong support staff.
A large part of Earl Grey’s success is due to the backing of a dedicated group of parents. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the support and trust you have placed in me over the years. It has been a pleasure to work with such dedicated and supportive parents. To all our volunteers, and school council members over these many years, a heartfelt thank you.
In order to facilitate a smooth transition, I will assist the new principal when announced. Please see the attached letter (under related information) from our Area Director, David Dyck. This letter provides a survey link for you to offer your thoughts of what you value in a principal and the culture at Earl Grey.
It has been a privilege working with your children and witnessing their growth and achievements. Your children have brought me immeasurable joy and have taught me so much about the importance of education, resilience, and the power of human connection.
Earl Grey has a vibrant community spirit rich in the tradition of leadership and giving back to the community. It is truly, Nothing But the Best!
With Gratitude,
Matthew Lowe
Principal, Earl Grey School
