Update from EG Parent Association and Playground Committee

Welcome back! We hope you enjoyed the summer break and are ready for an exciting new year!

 Reminders from the office 

  • If you child will be absent from school please call the attendance line to report their absent, 403-777-8570 opt 1
  • If you are picking your child up early from school please sign them out in the green binder in the office, the office staff will call your child’s classroom and have them come to the office.  
  • If your child arrives late please have them check in at the office before going to class
  • If your child takes the bus, please notify the office that you will be picking up your child at the end of the day 

Morning Routines 

Our doors open at 7:55 each morning; this soft entry ensures that students are in class ready for learning when the bell rings at 8:00 a.m.  Outdoor supervision begins at 7:45 a.m. We ask that families do not arrive before 7:45 a.m. unless you are dropping off students at Little Steps Before and after School Care.  If you are dropping off at the Kiss and Ride in front of the school we ask that students make their way to the back of the school where supervision is in place.  

Parking and Student Drop Off and Pick-Up

School Patrols will begin on September 16, and will be on duty at the 8th Street and Dorchester Avenue crosswalk before school from 7:50 to 8:00 a.m. and after school from 2:40 to 2:50 p.m.

We now have 5 busses transporting students to and from school.  Please be mindful of the no parking signage along the south side of Hillcrest Avenue as we need this space for loading and unloading students. Police will ticket vehicles parking in this signed designated area!   

Drop off for students may be done in the “Kiss’n’Ride” zone in front of Earl Grey School, as well as Dorchester Avenue and Earl Grey Crescent.  Please observe the handicapped parking and Bus Zone on Hillcrest Avenue to allow access for our bused students.  Also, please have your children use the crosswalk in front of the school on Hillcrest Avenue and do not allow them to jaywalk. 

The staff parking lot is used for Earl Grey staff vehicles only! 

Kindergarten and Preschool parents and care-givers should park vehicles on Dorchester Avenue and cross at the controlled crosswalk.  We understand that this is not convenient, but necessary for student safety. 

Little Steps Before and After Care families may use the parking lot prior to 7:45 a.m. and after 3:30 p.m. but parents must park in a designated stall and escort students in and out of the school. 

Bussing 

If you are new to Earl Grey and are accessing bussing from the Beltline (Connaught School) make sure you register for bussing using your MyCBE account.  Please be patient as routes are still being built, and this is an extremely busy time for CBE Transportation.

Google Classrooms 

Like last year, each class is required to have an online presence.  We will be using our google classrooms as an online warehouse of curriculum resources and as a communication hub between home and school. Teachers will be providing a brief summary of the weeks' activities completed in class. When possible, PDF pictures and examples will be attached.  If we are needing to pivot to online learning, or a child is ill or absent for an extended period of time, this is where students and families will access curriculum content and teacher support. Teachers are in the process of creating these online classrooms and enrolling students.  Google Classrooms will up and running by Friday, September 20.

  • Monday, September 2 is Labour Day - No School
  • Wednesday, September 4 - Our first School Council meeting will be held on at 6:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, September 4 – Welcome Back Assembly at 12:15 p.m.
  • Our Meet the Teacher Night will be held on Thursday, September 26 from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

  • Friday, September 27  is a Professional Development Day – No School
