Hello Earl Grey Families, we hope everyone had a fantastic summer break!

First Day of Classes

Our first day of classes is Thursday, August 29. for all students in grades Kindergarten to grade 6.  

  • We will have School Council volunteers stationed on the upper compound who will assist families in finding their teacher’s location.
  • Teachers will have grade grouping signs that will be spread around the east and south fields.
  • Parents will go to the same location on the field to pick students up on the first two days of school.
  • On Tuesday, September 3 students and parents must decide on a pick up location for the remainder of the school year. 
  • Kindergarten students pick up location will be at the lower compound doors.
  • Drop off for Little Steps Before and After Care will be outside of the lower compound doors.

Yellow School Bus Information

Bussing Information (Bus routes and Stops) Can be found in your MyCBE account. As we have early dismissals on Fridays (drop off times on Fridays will be different)

  • Busses will be running on the first day of school. If your child(ren) will be taking the bus on the first day, they will be met at the bus on arrival at the school by a staff member. Prior to students exiting the bus, each child will have the Bus’s Identification (A, B, C or D) marked on each students hand to help us ensure that each student gets on the correct bus at the end of the day.
  • Kindergarten students who ride the bus, will only have transportation one direction. Students in the morning class, can ride the bus to school. Students in the afternoon class, can ride the bus home. There is NO midday transportation provided for Kindergarten.

School Hours

Our doors open at 7:55 each morning; this soft entry ensures that students are in class ready for learning when the bell rings at 8:00 a.m.  Outdoor supervision begins at 7:45 a.m. We ask that families do not arrive before this time unless you are dropping off students at Little Steps Before and After School Care.

Please be on time! Late arrivals do interfere with lessons that have already begun.

Staffing Updates and Teacher Welcome Letters

We are pleased to welcome the following new staff to Earl Grey:

  • Mrs. Carissa Kozelj who will be teaching in our Learning and Literacy Program
  • Miss Katy Cotton our new music teacher
  • Ms. Candace Marks who will be teaching Division I
  • Ms. Shael Bourne who will be teaching Division I

Teacher Welcome Letters outlining classroom routines and expectations will be sent out by Friday, August 30.

Classroom Assignments

Student placements are decided collaboratively by teaching staff and administration. The teachers work together closely in creating lists. We look at academic abilities, learning styles, teaching style, gender mix, friendships, and positive peer to peer relationships. This is a very thoughtful task as teachers think of the best interest of each child as they create class lists. Classroom assignments will not be shared prior to Thursday morning as we are continuing to finalize enrolment numbers due to new in area registrations and our continued overflow designation for Connaught School. Please do not request a specific teacher, as all our teaching staff are excellent! If you do wish to email me a specific educational consideration it will be read. However, there is no commitment on the school to accommodate specific classroom requests.  

What to Bring on the First Day

We ask that parents send their child with indoor shoes, water bottle, a nutritious snack for recess, and a packed lunch if they stay at school.  

Parking and Student Drop Off and Pick-Up

School Patrols, will begin Sept.16 at the 8th Street and Dorchester Avenue crosswalk.   We ask parents and care-givers monitor your children’s safety while crossing.

Drop off for students may be done in the “Kiss’n’Ride” zone in front of Earl Grey School, as well as Dorchester Avenue and Earl Grey Crescent.  Please observe the handicapped parking and Bus Zone on Hillcrest Avenue to allow access for our bused students.  Also, please have your children use the crosswalk in front of the school on Hillcrest Avenue and do not allow them to jaywalk. 

The staff parking lot is used for Earl Grey staff vehicles only! 

Kindergarten and Preschool parents and care-givers should park vehicles on Dorchester Avenue and cross at the controlled crosswalk.  We understand that this is not convenient, but necessary for student safety. 

Little Steps Before and After Care families may use the parking lot prior to 7:45 a.m. and after 3:30 p.m. but parents must park in a designated stall and escort students in and out of the school.
